A new year has begun, resolutions have been made, and a new president has been sworn in. So now what?As we begin our final year in this first decade of the 21st century, it seems like we can do little more than cross our fingers & hope for the best. While it is certainly exciting to see President Barack Obama take office, we must remain realistic. Although he is a proponent of change, in order to not be disappointed we must realize that our current socioeconomic struggles will not be reversed overnight.
The dwindling economy will not be fixed by tomorrow morning. The home loan scandal is still leaving numerous Americans stranded. The health care system will continue to withhold coverage from thousands who desperately need it. As idealistic as many Americans would like to be, the truth remains that one man simply cannot immediately mend all that ails us.
Nevertheless, it would be socially irresponsible for any one of us to lose hope. Improvement may not happen today, this year, or even within this presidential term, but it's bound to happen.
After all, the only constant in life...is change.
