I know what you're thinking: "Nobody has downtime anymore..." But of course we do! How often do we find a lull in our day or some extra free time in the evenings, and the first instinct is to find something to eat? Most of the time, this desire does not arise out of actual physical hunger, but rather boredom or confusion with being free from any deadlines or work.So before you grab that bag of chips or start scooping out some ice cream, try a cup of tea instead. Warm tea will bring relaxation in the evenings, and iced tea will give you a nice boost during the day. You'll be surprised to find your 'hunger' might actually have been thirst, and your munchies will go away.
And sometimes we just have 'mental munchies.' That is, we eat because we feel a deep need to fill our time with some sort of activity, and food is the easiest (and readily available) resource. How about going for a hike instead? Call an old friend, take a relaxing bath, or read that book you've been meaning to finish for the past 6 months. Downtime is YOU time. Take advantage by taking care of yourself, tea mug in hand.
