Using Green Tea as a fundamental key in our healthy diets seems to be a novel trend, but Green Tea has been around for longer than we can imagine; cultivating, harvesting, drinking, and even eating Green Tea dates back about 5,000 years.
So who figured that boiling the Green Tea leaves produces an array of health benefits? Chinese tradition tells us that the scholar and herbalist Sh’en Nung was resting under a tree when the little leaves accidentally plopped into his pot of boiling water. Another version of the story speaks of Siddhartha Gotama , or “Buddha”, unknowingly stumbling upon a tea tree when encountering a lull in his 9 year stretch of meditation. He claimed that drinking Green Tea helped him stay observant and brought him back into focus. In the 3rd century textual evidence determined that tea was used by communities in Asia to increase alertness, alleviate depression, and heal digestive and nervous conditions.
In addition to drinking it, people would use Green Tea for preparing their favorite dishes. The Green Tea leaves were used for flavoring seafood and meats. It was used as a broth in soups, and the potent syrup was utilized as a base ingredient in cakes and breads. The communities trusted Green Tea as an essential staple in their diets.
We are proud to be pursuing the noble Green Tea traditions of early civilization by using this extraordinary leaf in our Green tea Mints and Bars. We will continue to make Green Tea inspired products with the highest expectations of quality, and with the hopes that we can spread good health to communities everywhere.
